It never changes. Teams will hate each other. No two teams hate each other more than the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees do.

I have witnessed, in some form or other, every major Yankees-Red Sox brawl, be it the days of Bill Spaceman Lee and Thurman Munson, or the wild fracases of 2003 and 2004. Although these two teams have a mutual respect, and their feistiness has declined in the last couple of years, last week’s brawl may have sparked a new generation of mutual hatred.

It all began when Tyler Austin slid into second base on a bunt by Tyler Wade, and his spike made contact with the leg of Red Sox second baseman Brock Holt. Both from meeting him, and what I have heard about the play, I will say that, while Austin did get a piece of Holt, it was not the worst spike to happen since I started covering the game. It certainly was not harmful enough to begin a brawl.

In the National League, there is a rivalry that does not quite echo that of the Bombers and the Sox, but did find itself a lot of publicity in the baseball world last week. I am speaking of course of the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres.

The NFL’s draft lottery for free tickets set a record, and with a capacity of 108,000 each day at the Draft Experience outside the stadium, this draft could surpass last year’s numbers. I would just say that we always hope to beat previous numbers, Chad Estis, the Cowboys’ executive vice president of business operations, said…. We have high expectations. The lottery for people to receive the tickets in the actual theater has exceeded what they had last year, so there’s some early indications that we have an opportunity to have some super large numbers out there. Philadelphia drew 250,000 last year to the three-day outdoor event, setting the all-time draft attendance mark, while drawing rave reviews.

The Cowboys expect thousands to attend the festival outside the stadium without seeing the actual draft, with total crowds somewhere around 90,000 fans in attendance each day. Everything we do, I’m told a record is a must, Estis said. We’ve got a nice list going with NBA All-Star and WrestleMania and Academy of Country Music Awards. Add this to the list. For the first time, each of the 32 teams will have a section just for its fans.

Report: Dolphins allow Jarvis Landry to seek trade

There could be a pitch to keep Pugh, who will not cost what Norwell did but could command a contract averaging $8 million-$10 million per year, as he has started games at guard and tackle but missed eight games last season with a back injury. Fluker played well after moving into the starting lineup at right guard until a toe injury landed him on injured reserve.

Potentially interested teams include the Jets, Texans, 49ers, Raiders, and Colts. As many as six or seven teams are expected to pursue Lewis.

A fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2011, he arrived in New England after stints in Philly, Cleveland, and Indy. His best year by far came in 2017, with 896 rushing yards (an average of five yards per attempt) and 214 receiving yards. He had six rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns.

Stewart, who spent 10 years with the Panthers, visited the Giants on Tuesday and did not leave without a contract agreement. He saw familiar faces in Mike Shula, the Giants’ new offensive coordinator, who filled that role for the Panthers, and Gettleman, the general manager in Carolina for four years.

Stewart, released Feb. 28 by the Panthers, turns 31 next Wednesday and is coming off a season in which he averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry; he should not be considered the No. 1 back and he is not a pass-catching threat, something head coach Pat Shurmur prefers with his running backs.

It happens. It’s football, Guice said. . . . This past season, injuries sucked. But you have to fight through it and keep going.

Guice reminds scouts of Marshawn Lynch. The Raiders list Lynch at 5-11, 215 pounds. Guice measured 5-11 and weighed 224, 6 pounds heavier than he played last season.

Guice sees himself when he watches Lynch.

Beastmode. Skittle Man, Guice said when asked whose style he tries to duplicate. I see anger, man. I see somebody who refuses to go down. When I run, I really think about him every time. And when I go back and watch him, I’m like, ‘Man, I really run like this dude, man. It’s crazy.’

Growing up, my favorite running back was Reggie Bush, and as I got older and started really studying running backs, I was like, ‘Man, Beastmode reminds me a lot of myself.’ So that’s who I like to watch a lot nowadays.

Not tagged in 2018, Kirk Cousins likely will never be tagged again

Washington applied the franchise tag to quarterback Kirk Cousins in 2016 and 2017. Washington chose not to tag Cousins again in 2018, for one very important reason.

By rule, Cousins would have received a 44-percent increase over his 2017 salary, if tagged a third time. For Cousins, that would have pushed his one-year pay from $23.94 million to $34.47 million.

The 6-4, 225-pound Bergen Catholic  (Oradell, N.J.) tight end is the brother of Rutgers second-year linebacker Brendan Devera, who made an impact on the backs in 2017 as a true freshman.

Devera migrated to deep into North Jersey Tuesday to N.J. Sports House in Oakland, where the entire Rutgers staff watched upwards of 60 prospects from the region workout.

I got there, I talked to a couple coaches, coach (Vince) Okruch, coach (Chris) Ash. Then we started to warm up, the junior told NJ.com. We did some agility drills, some bag drills, indi(vidual) drills with coach Okruch. There was only one other tight end from Seton Hall. There were only two of us so we got a lot of work in. Then went over ran some routes with the quarterbacks and that was really it. It was only an hour but there were a lot of people working. Because there aren’t a lot of places you can throw in the winter, so there were a lot of good kids there.

For ESPN, an eight-figure salary would represent a $3.5 million increase over the annual compensation previously paid to Jon Gruden, who left broadcasting to reportedly make $10 million per year as coach of the Raiders.

The competition between ESPN and FOX for Manning’s services has created a sense of inevitability that he’ll take a TV job. He has said nothing to give credence to this, apart from driving the pace car at the Daytona 500, a NASCAR race televised by FOX.

Manning is widely regarded as a natural at television, combining an ability to speak extemporaneously in a naturally funny, self-aware way with a relentless work ethic that will ensure the highest level of preparation.

If the money is equal, FOX arguably would provide the better opportunity, with a bigger audience and a schedule that would allow Manning to spend weekends at home. He also could, in theory, join the Joe Buck/Troy Aikman team for postseason games or the Super Bowl.

The video was fairly unremarkable. In it, a hyper-fit athlete with a tight passing motion threw dimes to a receiver downfield.

Arizona pitcher Taijuan Walker serves up free, homemade tacos out of food truck

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Taijuan Walker was serving them up at Salt River Fields on Monday.

Before the D-backs’ game against the Colorado Rockies, Walker dished out free tacos to fans and teammates from a custom taco truck.

Walker uses a recipe handed down from his mother, Nellie Garcia, and has added a few wrinkles of his own. His specialty: bison tacos.

Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers, who have lost six of seven. Philadelphia sits in third place in the Metropolitan Division with 81 points, two in front of Columbus and three ahead of New Jersey.

Got to flush it out and move forward, Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said.

The Golden Knights were playing their first game since setting a record for road wins by an expansion team with Saturday’s 2-1 shootout victory at Buffalo. Vegas improved to 21-12-3 on the road and 45-19-5 overall.

Carpenter netted the game-winner after strong work along the boards by Cody Eakin and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, both of whom got assists. Eakin got the puck to Carpenter, who fired a wrist shot from left of the post past Petr Mrazek’s glove side.

Bartolo Colon could be pitching his way into the Texas Rangers’ rotation at age 44 as he continues to shut down hitters half his age in spring training.

Colon called it one of the best outings he had this spring.

Because what I’ve been trying to do is throw strikes, Colon said. That’s what I’ve been doing to try to make it happen.

Marc-Andre Fleury has helped surprising Vegas by bringing a positive vibe and a contagious amount of confidence to the locker room. His play on the ice hasn’t been too shabby, either.

Fleury made 38 saves to become the 13th goalie in NHL history with 400 career wins, and Ryan Carpenter scored the winning goal with 2:40 left to lead the Golden Knights over the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Monday night.

Buffalo wins 8th straight, tops Eastern Michigan 83-69

Jeremy Harris scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds to help Mid-American Conference leader Buffalo beat Eastern Michigan 83-69 on Tuesday night for its eighth straight victory.

CJ Massinburg added 18 points, Nick Perkins 17 and Wes Clark 13 for Buffalo (15-5, 7-0), which has scored 80-plus points in eight straight games.

The last time UB won eight straight was at the end of 2014-15 season after six consecutive regular-season games and two MAC tournament victories.

He’s a terrific player. I’m not surprised that he played well at all. Good players go through things like that for a couple of games, Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton said. He’s not going to let that keep him down.

Culver, the freshman guard playing in his hometown, finished with 25 points and four 3-pointers.

Jeffrey Carroll had 16 points for Oklahoma State (13-7, 3-5), which was coming off an overtime win three days earlier over then-No. 4 Oklahoma. And the Cowboys still had a 14-point lead with 15 minutes left.

Malcolm Duvivier hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 for Akron (10-9, 3-4 Mid-American Conference), while Daniel Utomi contributed 13 points and eight rebounds and Mark Kostelac scored 10 on 5-of-6 shooting.

Gavin Block scored 18 — on 6-of-11 shooting from 3-point range — with seven rebounds to pace the Bobcats (9-10, 2-5). Teyvion Kirk added 16 points and six assists and Doug Taylor scored 11 with six boards and four blocked shots.

Ohio never led but managed to forge four ties, the last one at 58-all with 5:35 left in the game. But Kostelac had a layup and Ivey nailed a 3-pointer and added two buckets to push the Zips lead to 67-58. The Bobcats closed to within a point, but Ivey and Virshon Cotton both hit two free throws in the final 20 seconds to preserve the win.

Sabally, Ionescu lead No. 7 Oregon over No. 18 Oregon State

Kelly Graves’ first tastes of the Civil War as Oregon’s head coach were back-to-back losses by a combined 62 points to a ranked Oregon State team.

In his fourth season, Graves and the No. 7 Ducks finally pumped new life 100-game old rivalry.

Oregon State was 13 of 26 from the arc in the first meeting, but that went down to 7 of 21 against a defense that was more man than zone in the rematch.

We didn’t move the ball as well tonight, OSU coach Scott Rueck said. I didn’t think we saw the floor nearly as well tonight, and we didn’t get into sets.

They played very aggressive tonight, and that was the difference. They were the aggressor.

Ruthy Hebard’s 10 rebounds led the Ducks to a 41-30 edge on the boards. They also outscored the Beavers 32-14 in the paint.

Oregon, the fourth No. 1 seed in first NCAA ratings released Thursday, leads the Pac-12 by a game over UCLA and Stanford. However, the Ducks will continue to tinker with their rotation without injured 3-point specialist Lexi Bando, the NCAA’s active career leader beyond the arc at 45.5 percent.

Oregon State has work to do with three conference losses and six of its last 10 games on the road if it hopes to claim a fourth consecutive Pac-12 regular-season championship.

Camara, who scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds for 901 in his career, passing Dave Pemberton’s 897 (1969-72). Tanner Leissner added 11 points for the Wildcats (8-12, 4-2 America East).

Cornish made three 3-pointers and scored 16 points with 13 rebounds for his second double-double for the Seawolves (8-12, 3-3). Jakub Petras added 13 points and Junior Saintel 10.

Cornish scored 13 points in the first half when Stony Brook led 31-26. A 12-0 run gave UNH a 42-35 lead and the game was tied four times after that.
