Astros SP Lance McCullers Jr. to rejoin rotation Saturday, report says

Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. is expected to return to the rotation Saturday against the Mariners, according to the Houston Chronicle.

McCullers has been on the disabled list since June 9 due to back pain. He made it through a bullpen session on Monday.

Houston has lost five of its last eight games with McCullers and ace Dallas Keuchel out of the rotation.

McCullers, 23, who has developed into a solid No. 2 starter, has a 2.58 ERA and 89 strikeouts so far this season.

The Astros still have the best record in baseball, but will likely be in the market for a starting pitcher before the July 31 trade deadline.

Washington traded its pick in the draft, No. 52 overall, to New Orleans for point guard Tim Frazier, according to multiple reports. Frazier, 26, will be joining his fifth team in four seasons; he previously was with the Celtics, 76ers andTrail Blazers before joining the Pelicans in March 2016. Last season he averaged 7.1 points and 5.2 assists in 23.5 minutes per game. He made 35 starts as New Orleans dealt with a slew of injuries.

The Clippers have been in contact with several teams, including the Suns, while exploring the market for center DeAndre Jordan, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.

Phoenix reportedly shot down discussions with LA regarding a potential trade of Tyson Chandler and the Suns’ No. 4 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft in exchange for Jordan.
